Why are college texts so expensive??

We’ve had two bookstores at our state college in the last few years,
and both have had outrageous prices for everything they carry. The
biggest insult is the texts needed for class themselves. How can
students be getting gouged for over $90 for a 200page book?? Some
students need 6,7 or more of these texts a semester for their classes.

After four years, I’m sure the bookstores are laughing at all the cash
they’ve raked in without having to worry about competition.

Or is there? IS there any mail order or direct purchasing mechanism
for buying college texts?

Do these books become marked up ten fold when they GET to the campus
bookstores, or do they start out with ridiculous prices from the
publishers??

I was wondering if anyone had info about schools with
distance learning programs.. DL, meaning correspondence,
online, video, modem, etc… not extension campuses, night
school and such.

I need "real", accredited courses. I’d like to find some
with programming, CAD/CAM, electronics, etc..  I don’t
think an ICS, Foley, or NRI Diploma will cut it, at least
for my end result..

I’ve been looking on the W3, with infoseek, alta-vista,
magellan etc.. Most of what I come up with are page
listings for some person or article having to do with DL.

I’m looking for email addresses so I can get catalogs, F
Aid info, admissions, Degree info, etc.

Hormel Foods Corp. v. Jim Henson Productions

For last year’s release of the film, Muppet Treasure
Island, Jim Henson Productions added some news additions to
the Muppet arsenal. Among them was Spa’am, the high priest
of a tribe of wild boars that comes to worship Miss Piggy
as it’s queen.

Funny, Right? Not to Hormell the makers of the SPAM who
decided to sue.  Hormel also expressed concern that even
comic association with an unclean "grotesque" boar will
call into question the purity and high quality of its meat
product. But the district court found no evidence that
Spa’am was unhygienic.

Are we talking about the same SPAM here?

Key was the testimony of Anne Devereaux Jordan, an expert
in children’s literature, who found Spa’am to be a positive
figure in the context of the movie as a whole — even if he
is not "classically handsome."

The case is still under appeal.

Hi all.  

I live in the dorms and I was wondering if anyone know of some practical
and convincing excuses for wanting to move to another dorm.  You see, my
roommate and I don’t get a long well.  Please don’t tell me to try
harder at working things out between us because I’ve sincerely tried
that and it obviously didn’t work.  He is very stubborn as I later found
out.  He is the jealous/revengful type of person…one that I can’t
brainwash into compliance or cooperation.  I don’t know what his problem
is but I think he’s antisocial…well, at least he always avoid having
dialogs with me.  I know it’s because we have such a difficult time
getting along.  He is the loud type, and I’m his opposite.  He even has
a computer and television set in the room.  I hardly even turn on the
radio!  This makes me very agitated because my roommate purposely types
late at night just so I couldn’t sleep in peace.  He knows full well my
early schedule, but I don’t think he gives a damn about my health or
well being.  Also, he always make an attempt to reverse everything I
do.  For example, he would close the windows everytime I open it or when
I leave the room.  I told him that I wanted some fresh air since the
room is small and stuffy to the point where I couldn’t tolerate because
of the lack of oxygen.  Well, I got to go to bed now since it’s  almost
3:00am in the morning.  I always have to return to the dorm late or else
he would be there typing!  Talk about sleeping with the enemy.  Ok, with
a roommate like mine, who NEEDS an enemy?
